Mother of the Believers — Scholar of the Ummah
Aisha bint Abi Bakr عَائِشَة بِنْت أَبِي بَكْر
Daughter of Abu Bakr and wife of the Prophet ﷺ, the most learned woman of the Ummah, whose exoneration from slander was revealed in the Qur'an itself. She narrated over two thousand hadith and taught the greatest scholars of the next generation.
Beloved of the Prophet ﷺ
Aisha grew up in a household of faith and married the Prophet ﷺ in Madinah. Quick-witted, perceptive, and deeply devoted, she held a special place in his heart; when asked whom he loved most, he named her among the people. Revelation, he noted, sometimes came to him while he was with her.
Exonerated from Above the Heavens
When hypocrites spread a vile slander against her, the community was shaken for a month until Allah revealed her innocence in clear verses of Surah an-Nur, vindicating her from beyond the seven heavens and warning against spreading false rumours. Her trial became a permanent lesson in guarding tongues and thinking well of the believers.
Indeed, those who came with the falsehood are a group among you… why, when you heard it, did the believing men and women not think good of one another?
The Teacher of the Ummah
After the Prophet's death, Aisha became a primary source of his Sunnah — his worship, character, and private conduct that none else could relate. Senior Companions consulted her on difficult matters; she narrated more than two thousand hadith and corrected misunderstandings with her sharp scholarship. It was said that if the knowledge of all the wives and scholars were gathered, Aisha's would surpass it.
A Life of Worship and Influence
She fasted often, gave generously to the point of having nothing left at day's end, and taught in her chamber beside the Prophet's grave. Living until about 58 AH, she remained a towering authority whose narrations and rulings underpin a great part of Islamic law to this day.
