Servant of the Messenger ﷺ for Ten Years

Anas ibn Malik أَنَس بْن مَالِك

Given by his mother as a boy to serve the Prophet ﷺ, Anas spent ten years in his household and reported that the Prophet never once rebuked him. Blessed by the Prophet's prayer for long life and many children, he became a major narrator of hadith and lived to a great age.

A Gift to the Prophet ﷺ

When the Prophet ﷺ arrived in Madinah, Anas's mother Umm Sulaym brought her ten-year-old son and offered him to serve the Prophet. For the next decade Anas waited upon him in travel and at home, an intimate witness to the Prophet's daily character.

'He Never Said to Me, Why Did You…?'

Anas testified to the Prophet's gentleness: in ten years of service the Prophet ﷺ never scolded him, never asked why he had done something or left it undone. This single report is among the most powerful portraits of prophetic mercy and patience with the young.

A Prayer Answered for Life and Wealth

Umm Sulaym asked the Prophet ﷺ to pray for Anas, and he said, 'O Allah, increase his wealth and children, and bless what You give him.' Anas later said he became one of the richest of the Ansar, with scores of descendants, living to about a hundred — every part of the prayer fulfilled.

Teacher of Basra

Anas settled in Basra and became a beloved teacher, transmitting a vast number of hadith to the next generations. He was among the last of the Companions to die, around 93 AH, a living link to the Prophet ﷺ for the new Muslim world.
