سَمَّعَ سَامِعٌ بِحَمدِ اللَّهِ، وَحُسنِ بَلاَئِهِ عَلَينَا، رَبَّنَا صاحِبنَا، وَأَفضِل عَلَينَا، عَائِذاً بِاللَّهِ مِنَ النَّارِ

Pronunciation

Sami'a sami'un bihamdil-lahi wahusni bala-ihi 'alayna. Rabbana sahibna wa-afdil 'alayna 'a-ithan billahi minan-nar

English meaning

May a witness, be witness to our praise of Allah for His favours and bounties upon us. Our Lord, protect us, show favour on us and deliver us from every evil. I take refuge in Allah from the fire.

Explanation (Tafseer)

At dawn during travel, this prayer calls for a witness to praise of Allah and acknowledgment of His favors. It then asks the Lord to accompany and favor the travelers, and closes by seeking Allah’s refuge from the Fire, moving from gratitude into protection.
