Approximate Arabic reading aid
Idhā sami'tum ṣiyāḥa ad-diyakati fas'alū allāha min faḍlihi; fa'innahā ra'at malakan wa'idhā sami'tum nahīqa alḥimāri fata'awwadhū billāhi mina ash-shayṭāni; fa'innahu ra'ā shayṭānan
English meaning
If you hear the crow of a rooster, ask Allah for his bounty for it has seen an angel and if you hear the braying of an ass, seek refuge in Allah for it has seen a devil.
Explanation (Tafseer)
Two sounds are paired with two different responses. Hearing a rooster prompts asking Allah from His bounty because it has seen an angel, while hearing a donkey bray prompts seeking Allah’s protection from Satan because it has seen a devil. In either case, the sound becomes a cue to turn toward Allah.
