What a Muslim should say when he is praised

اللَّهُمَّ لاَ تُؤَاخِذنِي بِمَا يَقُولُونَ، وَاغفِر لِي مَا لاَ يَعلَمُونَ، [وَاجعَلنِي خَيراً مِمَّا يَظُّنُّونَ]

Pronunciation

Allaahumma laa tu'aakhithnee bimaa yaqooloona, waghfir lee maa laa ya'lamoona waj'alnee khayram-mimmaa yadhunnoon

English meaning

O Allah, do not call me to account for what they say and forgive me for what they have no knowledge of [and make me better than they imagine].

Explanation (Tafseer)

When praised, the speaker asks not to be held accountable for what others say, seeks forgiveness for faults they do not know, and asks to become better than they imagine. The prayer contrasts public opinion with Allah’s complete knowledge of the person’s actual condition.
