Invocation to be recited on the Day of Arafat

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم: ((خَيرُ الدُّعَاءِ دُعَاءُ يَومِ عَرَفَةَ، وَخَيرُ مَا قُلتُ أَنَا وَالنَّبيُّونَ مِن قَبلِي: لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَحدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ المُلكُ وَلَهُ الحَمدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيءٍ قَدِيرٌ)).

Approximate Arabic reading aid

Qāla an-nabiyyu ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam: khayru ad-du'ā'i du'ā'u yawmi 'arafata, wakhayru mā qultu anā wan-nabiyyūna min qablī: lā ilāha illā allāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu, lahu almulku walahu alḥamdu wahuwa 'alā kulli shay'in qadīrun.

English meaning

The best of supplications is the supplication on the day of AAarafah and the best which I and the Prophets before me have said (is): (None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs all praise and sovereignty and He is over all things omnipotent.)

Explanation (Tafseer)

This remembrance for the Day of Arafah centers completely on Allah’s oneness. It denies every partner, assigns all sovereignty and praise to Him, and affirms His power over everything. The wording joins exclusive worship and gratitude in a declaration identified in the entry with the prophets who came before.
