Repentance and seeking forgiveness — Du'a 1

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: ((وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لأَستَغفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيهِ فِي اليَومِ أَكثَرَ مِن سَبعِينَ مَرَّةٍ)).

Approximate Arabic reading aid

Qāla rasūlu allāhi ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam: wallāhi innī la-astaghfiru allāha wa'atūbu ilayhi fī alyawmi akthara min sab'īna marratin.

English meaning

The Messenger of Allah said: ‘By Allah, I seek forgiveness and repent to Allah, more than seventy times a day.

Explanation (Tafseer)

The statement describes seeking Allah’s forgiveness and turning back to Him more than seventy times in a day. Its emphasis is repeated repentance rather than a single response after one fault. Asking forgiveness and returning to Allah appear together as an ongoing daily movement.
