Repentance and seeking forgiveness — Du'a 4

وَقَالَ صلى الله عليه وسلم: ((أَقرَبُ مَا يَكُونُ الرَّبُّ مِنَ العَبدِ فِي جَوفِ اللَّيلِ الآخِرِ فَإِنِ استَطَعتَ أَن تَكُونَ مِمَّن يَذكُرُ اللَّهَ فِي تِلكَ السَّاعَةِ فَكُن)).

Approximate Arabic reading aid

Waqāla ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam: aqrabu mā yakūnu ar-rabbu mina al'abdi fī jawfi al-layli alākhiri fa'ini astaṭa'ta an takūna mimman yadhkuru allāha fī tilka as-sā'ati fakun.

English meaning

He said: ‘The nearest the Lord comes to His servant is in the middle of the night, so if you are able to be of those who remember Allah at that time, then be so.

Explanation (Tafseer)

This teaching draws attention to the latter part of the night as a time of nearness between the Lord and His servant. Its invitation is practical: if one is able to be among those who remember Allah during that hour, one should do so.
