Repentance and seeking forgiveness — Du'a 5

وَقَالَ صلى الله عليه وسلم: ((أَقرَبُ مَا يَكُونُ العَبدُ مِن رَبِّهِ وَهُوَ سَاجِدٌ فَأَكثِرُوا الدُّعَاءَ)).

Approximate Arabic reading aid

Waqāla ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam: aqrabu mā yakūnu al'abdu min rabbihi wahuwa sājidun fa'akthirū ad-du'ā'a.

English meaning

He also said: ‘The nearest a servant is to his Lord is when he is prostrating, so supplicate much therein.

Explanation (Tafseer)

Prostration is described as the position in which a servant is nearest to the Lord, followed by an invitation to supplicate abundantly there. The passage links bodily humility with direct prayer: lowering oneself in worship becomes the setting for bringing many requests and needs before Allah.
