The excellence of remembering Allah — Du'a 11
إِنَّ أَفضَلَ الدُّعَاءِ الحَمدُ لِلَّهِ، وَأَفضَلَ الذِّكرِ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ
Approximate Arabic reading aid
Inna afḍala ad-du'ā'i alḥamdu lillāhi, wa'afḍala adh-dhikri lā ilāha illā allāhu
English meaning
Jabir Ibn ‘AAabdullah related that the Messenger of Allah said: ‘Verily, the best supplication is: (All praise is for Allah.) and indeed, the best form of remembrance is: (None has the right to be worshipped except Allah.)
Explanation (Tafseer)
Two short phrases are distinguished here. “Alhamdulillah” is described as the best supplication, centering prayer on gratitude and recognition that all praise belongs to Allah. “La ilaha illallah” is described as the best remembrance, centering it on Allah’s exclusive right to worship.
