The excellence of remembering Allah — Du'a 3

وَقَالَ صلى الله عليه وسلم: ((كَلِمَتَانِ خَفِيفَتَانِ عَلَى اللِّسَانِ، ثَقِيلَتَانِ فِي المِيزَانِ، حَبِيبَتَانِ إِلَى الرَّحمَنِ: سُبحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمدِهِ، سُبحانَ اللَّهِ العَظِيمِ)).

Approximate Arabic reading aid

Waqāla ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam: kalimatāni khafīfatāni 'alā al-lisāni, thaqīlatāni fī almīzāni, ḥabībatāni ilā ar-raḥmani: subḥāna allāhi wabiḥamdihi, subḥana allāhi al'aẓīmi.

English meaning

Aboo Hurayrah reported that the Messenger of Allah said:’(There are) Two words, (which are ) light on the tongue, heavy on the Scale and beloved to The Most Gracious: (How perfect Allah is and I praise Him. How perfect Allah is, The Supreme.)

Explanation (Tafseer)

The two phrases praise Allah while declaring His perfection and greatness: “Subhanallahi wa bihamdihi” and “Subhanallahil-‘Azim.” They are described as easy to say, weighty on the Scale, and beloved to the Most Merciful. The contrast joins concise speech with the great significance stated for it.
