The excellence of remembering Allah — Du'a 7
وَقَالَ صلى الله عليه وسلم: ((يَا عَبدَ اللَّهِ بنَ قَيسٍ أَلاَ أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى كَنزٍ مِن كُنُوزِ الجَنَّةِ))؟ فَقُلتُ: بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: ((قُل لاَ حَولَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ)).
Approximate Arabic reading aid
Waqāla ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam: yā 'abda allāhi bna qaysin alā adulluka 'alā kanzin min kunūzi aljannati? faqultu: balā yā rasūla allāhi, qāla: qul lā ḥawla walā quwwata illā billāhi.
English meaning
AAabdullah Ibn Qays related that the Prophet said to him: ‘ O ‘AAabdullah Ibn Qays, shall I not inform you of a treasure from the treasures of paradise?’ He then said: ‘Say: (There is no might nor power except with Allah.)
Explanation (Tafseer)
“La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah” denies independent might and power and places both entirely with Allah. The passage calls this phrase a treasure from the treasures of Paradise. Its words teach the speaker to acknowledge that every capacity to change or act depends upon Allah.
