The excellence of remembering Allah — Du'a 10

كَانَ الرَّجُلُ إِذَا أَسلَمَ عَلَّمَهُ النَّبيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم الصَّلاَةَ ثُمَّ أَمَرَهُ أَن يَدعُوَ بِهَؤُلاَءِ الكَلِمَاتِ: ((اللَّهُمَّ اغفِرِ لِي، وَارحَمنِي، وَاهدِنِي، وَعَافِنِي وَارزُقنِي)).

Approximate Arabic reading aid

Kāna ar-rajulu idhā aslama 'allamahu an-nabiyyu ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam aṣ-ṣalāta thumma amarahu an yad'uwa biha'ulā'i alkalimāti: allāhumma aghfiri lī, warḥamnī, wahdinī, wa'āfinī warzuqnī.

English meaning

Tariq Al-AshjaAAee said: ‘When someone would embrace Islam, the Prophet would teach him how to perform prayer and then order him to supplicate with the following words: (O Allah, forgive me, have mercy upon me, guide me, give me health and grant me sustenance.)

Explanation (Tafseer)

This supplication gathers five needs in a few words: forgiveness, mercy, guidance, well-being, and provision. The passage places it after instruction in prayer, and the requests cover pardon for faults, compassionate care, right direction, bodily welfare, and the means needed for life.
