Qunoot al-Witr (Allahumma Inni A'udhu Bi Ridaka) — Invocations for Qunut in the Witr prayer
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِرِضَاكَ مِن سَخَطِكَ، وَبِمُعَافَاتِكَ مِن عُقُوبَتِكَ، وَأَعُــــوذُ بِكَ مِنكَ، لاَ أُحصِي ثَنَاءً عَلَيكَ، أَنتَ كَمَا أَثنَيتَ عَلَى نَفسِكَ
Pronunciation
Allahumma innee a'uthu biridaka min sakhatik, wabimu'afatika min 'uqubatik, wa a'uthu bika mink, la ohsee thana an 'alayk, anta kama athnayta 'ala nafsik
English meaning
O Allah, I take refuge within Your pleasure from Your displeasure and within Your pardon from Your punishment, and I take refuge in You from You. I cannot enumerate Your praise. You are as You have praised Yourself.
Explanation (Tafseer)
This prayer seeks protection through Allah’s pleasure from His displeasure and through His pardon from His punishment. The words “I seek refuge in You from You” acknowledge that safety rests with Allah alone. It ends by admitting that human praise cannot encompass Him as He has praised Himself.
