Invocation for when tragedy strikes

إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيهِ رَاجِعُونَ، اللَّهُمَّ أجُرنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي، وَأَخلِف لِي خَيرَاً مِنهَا

Pronunciation

Inna lillahi wa-inna ilayhi raji'oon, allahumma/- jurnee fee museebatee wakhluf lee khayran minha

English meaning

To Allah we belong and unto Him is our return.O Allah, recompense me for my affliction and replace it for me with something better.

Explanation (Tafseer)

This prayer begins by acknowledging that people belong to Allah and will return to Him. In the midst of tragedy, it then asks for recompense for the affliction and for something better in its place, joining acceptance of loss with hope for Allah’s replacement.
