Invocation for the withholding of the rain

اللَّهُمَّ حَوَالَينَا وَلاَ عَلَينَا، اللَّهُمَّ عَلَى الآكَامِ وَالظِّرَابِ، وَبُطُونِ الأَودِيَةِ، وَمَنَابِتِ الشَّجَرِ

Pronunciation

Allahumma hawalayna wala 'alayna, allahumma 'alal-akami waththirab, wabutoonil-awdiyah, wamanabitish-shajar

English meaning

O Allah, let the rain fall around us and not upon us, O Allah, (let it fall) on the pastures, hills, valleys and the roots of trees.

Explanation (Tafseer)

This prayer asks that excessive or harmful rain be redirected around the people rather than simply stopped. It names hills, elevated ground, valleys, and places where trees grow, seeking protection for the immediate area while preserving the rain’s benefit for land and vegetation.
