Invocation for sighting the new moon

اللَّهُ أَكبَرُ، اللَّهُمَّ أَهِلَّهُ عَلَينَا بِالأَمنِ وَالإِيمَانِ، وَالسَّلاَمَةِ وَالإِسلاَمِ، وَالتَّوفِيقِ لِمَا تُحِبُّ رَبَّنَا وَتَرضَى، رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّكَ اللَّهُ

Pronunciation

Allahu akbar, allahumma ahillahu 'alayna bil-amni wal-eeman, wassalamati wal-islam, wattawfeeiqi lima tuhibbu watarda, rabbuna warabbukal-lah

English meaning

Allah is the greatest. O Allah, let the crescent loom above us in safety, faith, peace, and Islam, and in agreement with all that You love and pleases You. Our Lord and your Lord is Allah.

Explanation (Tafseer)

Upon seeing the new moon, this prayer begins with Allah’s greatness and asks that the coming period arrive with safety, faith, peace, Islam, and success in what Allah loves and approves. It closes by declaring that Allah is Lord of both the speaker and the crescent.
