((إِذَا دُعِيَ أَحَدُكُم فَليُجِب، فَإِن كَانَ صَائِماً فَليُصَلِّ، وَإِن كَانَ مُفطِراً فَليَطعَم)) ، وَمَعنَى فَليُصَلِّ أَي فَليَدعُ.

Approximate Arabic reading aid

Idhā du'iya aḥadukum falyujib, fa'in kāna ṣā'iman falyuṣalli, wa'in kāna mufṭiran falyaṭ'am, wama'nā falyuṣalli ay falyad'u.

English meaning

When you are invited to eat, accept the invitation. If you are fasting, pray for your host; otherwise, eat.

Explanation (Tafseer)

This entry gives two responses to an invitation to eat. The invited person should accept; if fasting, the person prays for the host, and if not fasting, eats. The wording preserves the social response to the invitation while distinguishing what follows according to whether the guest is fasting.
