إِذَا عَطَسَ أَحَدُكُم فَليَقُلِ الحَمدُ لِلَّهِ، وَليَقُل لَهُ أَخُوهُ أَو صَاحِبُهُ: يَرحَمُكَ اللَّهُ، فَإِذَا قَالَ لَهُ: يَرحَمُكَ اللَّهُ، فَليَقُل: يَهدِيكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيُصلِحُ بَالَكُم

Approximate Arabic reading aid

Idhā 'aṭasa aḥadukum falyaquli alḥamdu lillāhi, walyaqul lahu akhūhu aw ṣāḥibuhu: yarḥamuka allāhu, fa'idhā qāla lahu: yarḥamuka allāhu, falyaqul: yahdīkumu allāhu wayuṣliḥu bālakum

English meaning

When one of you sneezes he should say:(All praise if for Allah.) and his brother or companion should say to him: (May Allah have mercy upon you.) and he (i.e. the one who sneezed) replies back to him:(May Allah guide you and rectify your condition.)

Explanation (Tafseer)

This exchange after a sneeze moves through praise, mercy, guidance, and well-being. The person who sneezes praises Allah; the companion asks Allah to show that person mercy; and the reply asks Allah to guide the companions and set their condition right.
