((عَنِ ابنِ عُمَرَ رضي الله عنه قَاَلَ: كَانَ يُعَدُّ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي المَجلِسِ الوَاحِدِ مِائَةُ مَرَّةٍ مِن قَبلِ أَن يَقُومَ: ((رَبِّ اغفِر لِي، وَتُب عَلَيَّ، إِنَّكَ أَنتَ التَّوَّابُ الغَفُورُ)).

'ani abni 'umara raḍiyallāhu 'anhu qāla: kāna yu'addu lirasūli allāhi ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam fī almajlisi alwāḥidi mi'atu marratin min qabli an yaqūma: rabbi aghfir lī, watub 'alayya, innaka anta at-tawwābu alghafūru.

English meaning

Ibn AAumar said: It would be counted that the Messenger of Allah would say one hundred times at any one sitting before getting up: (O my Lord, forgive me and turn towards me (to accept my repentance). Verily You are The Oft-Returning. The Oft-Forgiving.)

Explanation (Tafseer)

Before rising from an assembly, this repeated prayer asks the Lord for forgiveness and for acceptance of repentance. It closes by naming Allah as the One who repeatedly accepts return and the One who forgives, linking the requests directly to the qualities invoked.
