9 Dhul-Hijjah — Yawm al-Arafah
Standing at Arafat
After sunrise, travel from Mina to Arafat. After zawal, pray Dhuhr and Asr together (shortened, at Dhuhr's time) in Masjid Namirah if possible. Then dedicate the time from zawal to sunset to dua and dhikr.
What to do
- Being on Arafat between zawal and dawn of 10 Dhul-Hijjah is the pillar — without it there is no Hajj.
- Stay until sunset; do not leave Arafat before the sun has set.
- The Prophet ﷺ said: 'The best dua is the dua of the day of Arafah.'
The best dua of the Day of Arafah
لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
La ilaha illa-llahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahu l-mulku wa lahu l-hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir
There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the kingdom and His is the praise, and He is over all things Powerful.
A comprehensive personal dua (suggested)
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنَ الْخَيْرِ كُلِّهِ عَاجِلِهِ وَآجِلِهِ مَا عَلِمْتُ مِنْهُ وَمَا لَمْ أَعْلَمْ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الشَّرِّ كُلِّهِ عَاجِلِهِ وَآجِلِهِ مَا عَلِمْتُ مِنْهُ وَمَا لَمْ أَعْلَمْ
Allahumma inni as'aluka min al-khayri kullihi 'ajilihi wa-ajilih, ma 'alimtu minhu wa ma lam a'lam, wa a'udhu bika min ash-sharri kullihi 'ajilihi wa-ajilih, ma 'alimtu minhu wa ma lam a'lam
O Allah, I ask You for all good — what is near of it and what is distant, what I know of it and what I do not know. And I seek refuge in You from all evil — what is near of it and what is distant, what I know of it and what I do not know.
