Noon Saakin & Tanween Rules

Idgham bi-Ghunnah إِدْغَام بِغُنَّة

Merge with nasal hum — when followed by و م ن ي (mnemonic: ينمو).

When a noon saakin or tanween is followed by one of the four letters in ينمو (ya, noon, meem, waw), the noon is dropped and merged into the next letter with a held nasal hum (ghunnah) of two counts. Exception: when the noon and the following ya/waw are within the same word, izhar mutlaq applies instead (rare — only four words in the Qur'an: دُنْيَا، بُنْيَان، صِنْوَان، قِنْوَان).
