Madd — Elongation Rules
Madd Jaiz Munfasil المَدّ الجَائِز المُنْفَصِل
A madd letter at the end of a word followed by a hamza at the start of the next — 2, 4, or 5 counts.
When a long vowel ends one word and the next word begins with a hamza, the elongation is jaiz — permissible at varying lengths (2, 4, or 5 counts depending on the riwayah). "Munfasil" means "separated" — the madd letter and the hamza are in different words. In Hafs the standard is 4 counts.
