Prayer rules and duas
Browse practical guides to purification, the five daily prayers, what is recited in Salah, post-prayer remembrance, Friday prayer, and special prayers.
- Wudu — Ritual Ablution
The minor purification, required before every salah. Allah's command in Surah al-Ma'idah lays out the exact obligatory acts; the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ adds the rinsing of the mouth, the sniffing of water into the nostrils, and the order and Sunan that complete it. - Ghusl — The Major Purification
Ghusl is the full ritual washing required after janabah (a state of major impurity — caused by intercourse, the emission of mani, the end of menses or post-natal bleeding), and is highly recommended on Fridays, the two Eids, and after washing the dead. - The Five Daily Prayers
The five obligatory prayers — Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha — gifted to the ummah on the night of the Mi'raj. Their times, number of rak'ahs, and Sunan are derived from the Prophet's ﷺ established practice over twenty-three years. - The Adhan and Iqamah
The adhan is Islam's call to prayer — first taught in a dream to a Companion, then confirmed by the Prophet ﷺ as part of the Sunnah of every congregation. - Conditions, Pillars, and Wajibs of Salah
The pre-conditions that must be in place before the prayer begins, the pillars (arkan) without which it is invalid, and the obligatory acts (wajibat) which must be completed but whose forgetting can be repaired with sujud as-sahw. - The Duas Within the Prayer
Every position in salah has dhikr taught by the Prophet ﷺ. Knowing them and meaning them is the difference between performing a movement and standing before Allah. - Adhkar After the Prayer
The Prophet ﷺ never left his prayer-place without specific words of remembrance. These adhkar after every salah are some of the most reward-bearing acts in the Sunnah. - Sunan ar-Rawatib — The Regular Sunnah Prayers
The Sunnah prayers attached to the five obligatory prayers. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Whoever maintains twelve rak'ahs of Sunnah every day, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise.' (Muslim 728). - Jumu'ah — The Friday Prayer
The weekly congregational prayer obligatory on every adult, sane, free Muslim man who is not a traveller, replacing Dhuhr on Fridays. Two rak'ahs preceded by a khutbah delivered by the imam. - Special Prayers — Janazah, Travel, Sick, Fear
Particular prayers prescribed for particular circumstances — burial, journey, illness, danger.
